My name is Melanie. I’m your neighbor. And the chief instigator of The League of Awesome Possibilities.
I’m a Midwest gal who has called the Chicago-area home for nine years. I’ve lived and worked in communities across the city Evanston to Edgewater, Andersonville to Buena Park, Bridgeport to Uptown and I now live on little slice of Damen between Ravenswood and Lincoln Square.
I believe that when designers act as neighbors, they can transform communities.
In my practice, I ask questions that facilitate an optimistic, human-centered, and grassroots approach to community design. I believe that play promotes possibilities, delight is a design driver, and strategy and whimsy can work together to create fundamentally different design experiences.
By day I work for a pretty rad learning design consultancy called The Third Teacher+.
I want to hear from you and for you to join this very awesome league. Please feel free to drop me a hello – we’d love to hear what you are up to in the neighborhood and share our active projects. Oh yeah, sometimes I tweet here.
The above picture was taken on a walk to Lincoln Square along Giddings Street in summer 2011. Some budding artists we have here in the neighborhood!
